What is home watch, and what does a visit include?

Home watch is a service where a local person checks on your home on a regular schedule while you are away, then reports what they find. It is common for second homes, vacation properties, and snowbird homes that sit empty for weeks or months.

What a visit usually covers

The agreed Home Watch checklist focuses on visual observations in accessible areas:

  • Walk agreed interior and exterior areas of the property
  • Look for leaks, stains, and signs of water damage
  • Observe thermostat settings and visible HVAC conditions
  • Look for pests, wildlife, and storm damage
  • Check doors, windows, and accessible entry points for visible concerns
  • Send a digital report with photos and observations after the scheduled check

What it does not cover

Home watch is observation and coordination. It does not include licensed home inspection, alarm monitoring, repairs done without your approval, or fire protection. Anything found is reported to you so you can decide what to do.

Common questions

What does a home watch visit include?

A scheduled Home Watch check is a visual walkthrough of agreed, accessible areas inside and outside the home. The visitor looks for leaks, temperature or HVAC concerns, pests, storm damage, and signs of entry, then provides a digital report with photos and observations. Exact check frequency and scope depend on the plan.

Is home watch the same as a security service?

No. Home watch provides visual checks and reports. It does not replace alarm monitoring, security guards, or fire protection.

Who uses home watch?

Second-home and vacation-home owners, snowbirds, owners of rentals, and anyone whose property is empty for long stretches.

How often should a home be checked?

Many owners choose weekly or every two weeks. Homes in extreme heat, cold, or storm seasons are often checked more often.

Details and contact preferences

Live video walkthroughs during scheduled property checks and virtual meetings are available upon request. Arrange a walkthrough in advance; availability depends on scheduling, a safe visit, and an adequate internet or cellular connection. Live video is not continuous monitoring or a licensed home inspection and does not replace the visit report. Ask in your message and share your preferred times; HomeTame will confirm availability and send the meeting invitation. To reduce phishing risk, we only use meeting links provided by HomeTame and do not accept customer-supplied meeting links. If an invitation looks suspicious, contact info@hometame.com to verify it before opening.
